Bio
This started out to be an SCA Arts & Sciences journal, but I find that I want to talk about a lot of other things too. I'll be showing SCA and non-SCA works in progress and telling everything I know about painting techniques, drawing, and gilding. Also book reviews, articles I've written, and event diaries. Also my take on modern culture, movies, and current events.

In real life, I work as a biological illustrator at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where I also sometimes prepare fossils. I write poetry and have been published in a number of journals. I also teach an oil painting class for adults. I met my husband at a science fiction convention, and we've been married since 1980. We have two grown children and three grandchildren. My hobby and passion is reading, especially about Fortean Phenomena, religious mysticism, and alchemy.

Those of you in the SCA may know me as THL Juliana de Florey le Imagour, or Julia of the Flowers, or Guilia Della Fiore. I've been in the SCA, in the Kingdom of Meridies, the Shire of Vulpine Reach, since 1979. Back in the 80's, I started messing around with egg tempera paint, and I have learned gilding and painted several Byzantine icons on wood panels. More recently I've taken up oils, and have made some silverpoint pens and experimented with them. I've taught many classes on egg tempera, silverpoint drawing, herbs, religious iconography, icons, and Renaissance painting techniques, and also on my pet obsession, heresies in the Middle Ages. I have served the shire as A&S officer more than once, and edited the newsletter. I've also written a number of articles about painting and my other interests. I have done about a half-dozen feasts over 20 years, and autocratted one event with my husband. At some point in the early 80's, after doing my first feast, I got my Award of Arms from good King John the Mad Celt. I'm a member of the Order of the Velvet Owl, and have received the Meridian Cross for my painting and teaching. I've also been awarded the CoFox, our local service award, for general cleaning up and washing pots in the kitchen. I was apprenticed to Mistress Lijsbeth Tijsz van Brugge for a number of years, although she has become inactive lately, and recently, I became an apprentice to Mistress Winalee Mareschall.
